Franco strikes back

Donna and I were playing Scrabble (I got a bingo!) while distractedly keeping an eye on the Braves/Cubs tilt on TBS last night. We didn’t pay too much attention when Julio Franco stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eight inning. He isn’t a bad player (a decent on-base average and nearly 2,500 hits), but he’s nothing special. He fell behind 0-2, looking pretty bad while swinging and missing both pitches. But for the next 10 pitches, he fouled off seven, including five in a row at one point, to work the count to 3-2. We were both paying attention as Franco drove the 13th pitch off the wall in right-field, scoring all three batters and winning the game for the Braves.

The pitcher, Kyle Farnsworth had this to say:

I’ve got nothing to say.
