WTF?!

There’s a particular epiphany that occurs every night now. It’s when I’m floating along, workin’ it, gettin’ it done, spongin’ up the poo, getting from one end of the day to the other, and I stop, stunned, and blurt:

“HOLY SHIT! I’m a PARENT. Who let THAT happen?”

Travels with Matty

This weekend, we took the plunge and stuck Matty in the car seat for 5+ hours. We wanted to visit family in New Jersey, that fine state, and we thought we would get the baby accustomed to traveling. So we stuffed the car with everything and anything that might possibly help us keep Matty satisfied and quiet, including his swing (which meant breaking it down, a difficult task for my white collar hands). We had 25 diapers (for two days!), four changes of clothes (for ourselves; the baby had eight — you know, in case he threw up seven times), his little playmat, two diaper bags, and three bottles full at all times.

And you know what? We overpacked. He was an angel. No screaming (at least, nothing we couldn’t fix by stuffing a bottle into his mouth), no puking (except once, and he didn’t seem to mind having to sit in a pool of vomit for about 30 mintues), and a pair of good craps (if you’re a parent, good craps are good things). He charmed more family socks off, and he got tons of modeling opportunities (pictures and videos soon!).

Eventually, we’ll go on a 10-hour car ride to the Outer Banks. And there will be five hour airline flights. Those are too horrible to contemplate right now; let’s build up our tolerance little by little.

Money money

Some people think they are worth a lot of money just because they have it.
