A Bowlful of Cherries

Celebrating Matty and Noah

Matty enjoyed his first ballgame

boxscore, Toronto vs. Orioles, 22 August 2004

Donna and I took Matty to his first game (we’re indoctrinating him early into the Cult of Bats and Gloves) last week. Unfortunately, we forgot the camera, so if you’re looking for pictures, you’ll have to form them in your mind’s eye. The Toronto Blue Jays were visiting Camden Yards, and Papa, of course, was rooting against the home team. Momma was sorely tried everytime Papa cheered yet another Toronto run in a game Toronto won pretty handily, 8-5. But Matty didn’t care.

Our seats were way up there in the “I-don’t-know-why-these-are-nosebleed-seats-because-it’s-
my-head-that-will-bleed-(and more)-when-I-pitch-
forward-and-fall-screaming-to-the-stands-below” seats. Matty liked the green grass and the giant TV. The fresh air is always great, of course, and the people in the stands were wondrous distractions. The Orioles mascot didn’t visit our section of the stands, unfortunately, so Matty didn’t get his first experience with “nature.” He also missed out on the bobblehead promotion.

And OK, can we just say HA HA to the Yankees? Ouch! 🙂
